Qualitative and quantitative research methods are the two main methods used in research studies.

Research Objectives

  • RO1: To explore, through a scale-based survey, the effect of social media content on consumer attitudes and buying habits.
  • RO2: To compare my survey findings with actual sales trends and figures, thus exploring the direct relationship between consumer and brand via social platforms.
  • RO3: To compare varying brands’ social media strategies further to highlight the influence of social media on sales.

Methodology

Qualitative and quantitative research methods are the two main methods used in research studies. However, the two research methods represent two different world views. In quantitative circles, qualitative research is as lightweight since it is based on small research sample to represent a broader population.   Qualitative research is also accused of being subject to bias due to the researcher’s own experience and opinion. On the other hand, those on the qualitative research circles accuse quantitative research of oversimplifying individual experiences, overlooking the researcher’s biases and expectations.  Despite the different views held about the two research approach, each of the methods has its strengths and weaknesses.

Qualitative research uses an exploratory approach to understand underlying reasons, opinions, attitudes, views, beliefs or preferences (Hammarberg, Kirkman & De Lacey 2016). One of the advantages of qualitative research is that it provides depth and detailed analysis of the research topic. By looking into attitudes, feelings, and behaviors, the researcher can gain a deeper understanding of the issue under study (Birchall 2014). Additionally, it creates openness since it encourages respondents to expand their responses on a topic hence helping to build new topics.

Moreover, it is possible to simulate individual experiences to explain why people act in a certain way and their feelings about their actions. It is also possible to explain why a person gave a specific response. On the other hand, fewer sample size studied acts as a disadvantage due to time and budget constraint. A qualitative study is time-consuming and therefore, involving a large sample size would mean more time is needed (Roulston 2014).  It is also less comfortable to generalize the results due to small sample size. Similarly, it is hard to make systematic comparisons since responses are highly subjective. Additionally, the quality of the results is dependent on the skills of the researcher.

On the other hand, quantitative research quantifies a problem by generating numerical data or data that can be transformed into statistics (Albers 2017).  Notably, quantitative research is based on objective facts, statistics and numerical data. One of the main strengths of quantitative research is that results can be clearly shown through objective data.  It is also easier to make predictions based on quantitative data. However, one of the disadvantages of quantitative research is that quantitative data cannot be used to explain social phenomena. It can only explain why something is happening but cannot provide insights.

For this research, quantitative research will be used to identify stages where social media influence consumer decision making, buying behaviors and explain facts and reasons in a different phenomenon. The quantitative research will also explain the cause-and-effect relationship between social media information and consumers’ response.

Description of Participants

The respondents included online consumers aged 18-55 years who have a reason for buying convenience and uses social media as a tool to affect their decision-making process during the purchases.  Both genders were considered as the research wanted to gain a full picture of the market using a research sample that represents the whole population with relevant characteristics.  The research sample will also determine how social media messages influence purchasing behaviors between males and females.

Description of other Data Sources

Online statistics indicating that buying behaviors between females and male buyers will be used. The secondary data will help complement the primary data collected from this study.   Data from online websites from major online retailers and messages that target online buyers will be used to complement primary data.

Research Strategy

A researcher can either adopt the deductive or the inductive approach. The inductive approach involves moving from specific to general conclusions such that a researcher first makes observations about a given study then generalizes the findings based on the existing patterns from the data (Zalaghi & Khazaei 2016). In the deductive approach, the researcher focuses on generalized theories and conducts a study in a bid to test or analyze the pre-existing hypothesis (Neuman 2012). For this study, the researcher will adopt the deductive approach to generalize findings based on the existing patterns from the data.  The deductive approach is the most appropriate research for this study since it is based on a quantitative research approach.

Research Philosophy

Research philosophy depicts the perception of how an investigator should go about when collecting information on a given subject of phenomena. Interpretivism and positivism are the two research philosophies mainly used by researchers. Positivism depicts a situation where individuals tend to have a similar perspective about a given subject hence making them subjective. On the other hand, interpretivism philosophy depicts situation whereby, different individuals usually have varying opinions on a similar subject or study (Crowther & Lancaster 2012). The varying opinions could be a result of different experiences, cultural practice or educational background.

This study will adopt the Positivism philosophy to gain a subjective view of the social media stages that influence buying behaviors and decisions in customers. This philosophy will be useful for this study since it seeks to test the existing theory on the impacts of social media on the buyers’ decision making and buying behaviors.

A research strategy is an essential step in helping the researcher to determine the path that the study will adopt by influencing research techniques and tools (Crowther and Lancaster, 2012). The most common and effective research strategies experimental research studies, surveys, and case studies.

Linking Methodology to Literature

The study seeks to gain empirical statistical evidence that shows the facets of social media that influences buying decisions and behaviors. Use of the quantitative research data is appropriate for this study since it will help to gain numerical that will illustrate the impact of social media on purchase decision-making and buying behaviors.

Data Collection

The research sought to gather data on how social media stimulates a buyer to recognize the needs something before he buys it. It also sought to establish how social media advertisements trigger a buyer to purchase a product. Additionally, the study sought to establish whether the buyer always achieves a desire for something new through social media and the solutions social media provides to the buyer.

The study employed a mix of scale-based surveys and interviews. The surveys involved questionnaires with close-ended questions in the form of a 5-point Likert scale (agree, strongly agree, neutral, disagree or strongly disagree) based on the research objectives. The first section of the questionnaire captured the respondent’s general information while the second, third and fourth sections captured the research question. In-depth interviews were not conducted due to time constraints. It is only five interviews that were conducted. With the strategy of survey, it allows the collection of a large amount of data from a sizeable population in a highly economical way. It also allows the researcher to control measurement and outcome. One of the weaknesses of the survey strategy is being inflexible. It is hard to change the research questions to capture new aspects noted in the research. Validity is another challenge since the survey questions are standardized; it is difficult to ask anything else other than general questions. It is, therefore, hard to examine the study topic comprehensively.

Evidence Used To Oppose This Bill

Evidence Used To Oppose This Bill

The bill seeking to grant full practice authority to nurse practitioners, which was first introduced in 2015 is a bill that requires reconsideration before plunging into medical practice crisis. The bill-making process seeks to make a bill to be an operational law.  The process that begins with sponsoring the bill and the entire lawmaking process is done in the Senate will ensure that any proposition that successfully undergoes the due process becomes a law (Zero to Three, 2014). However, the bill passed the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions on December 3, 2018, and thus there is a need to mobilize various evidence-based actions against this bill.

A nurse practitioner is an advanced-level practice nurse whose qualifications are far less than a physician’s. The nurse practitioner is trained and is qualified to play roles such as interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnose illness and diseases, prescribe medication, and give a treatment plan among others (Lowe et al., 2012). However, the qualification of a nurse practitioner is considered flimsy owing to minimal patient contact time. Various authorities have hinted the patient contact of a nurse practitioner is less or equal to 3% of that of physician and thus clearly indicating that the nurse practitioner is less qualified to be granted the full practice.

There is this view that the NPs are undertrained and those offering full practice service may lead to complications. To avoid difficulties, the NPs need to have the minimum requirements which include having adequate contact times, at least a masters degree and other credentials which will serve as the equivalents (Iglehart, 2013). This will, therefore, give them enough qualifications since adequate academic qualifications as well as the patient contact thus guarantees.

In the United, States physicians go through four-year graduate school training, undergo a four-year training to earn a medical school degree and complete a four-year minimum residency. This imparts adequate skills and experience to be able to undertake the full practice. As compared to the nurse practitioners, they have minimal patient contact and a minimum period of experience, as well as training since the nursing course, is mainly focused on the patient care and not diagnosis and prescription (Lowe, 2012).  Allowing the nurses the full practices will, therefore, cause many complications in the medical practice in the country and thus dangerous for the entire country.

In the article which was penned in the New York Times by Sandeep Jauhar and entitled   Nurses are not Doctor argues that what primary care practitioners can offer is not what nurses can offer since the primary care practice is a challenging cognitive practice which demands a cognitive ability. The primary care which is guaranteed by full practice requires high-quality training which is offered to people with qualifications that reflect the cognitive ability (Sandeep, 2014). This, therefore, shows that the ability of NPs will not meet and they need to undertake the routine diagnosis, treatment, and prescription of medication.

Conclusively the nursing practitioners are missing a lot in as far as their training is concerned. They work under the watch of a physician and thus it shows that both their raining and their cognitive abilities indicate that they should not be granted full practice authority.

Introduction

A personality test refers to a standardized instrument or a questionnaire designed to disclose various aspects of a person’s psychological makeup or character. The original personality tests were generated in the early 20th century. They were projected to simplify the process of recruitment of personnel particularly in the selection process. A broad range of personality tests are employed in contemporary times. These include the Jung typology test, and the Barnum personality inventory among others. At present, personality tests are employed in a variety of contexts, including relationship and individual counseling, personnel selection, personnel development, as well as in career planning. The most common type of personality tests is the self-report inventory. This entails the administration of several questions or items to participants. The participants answer the questions by ranking the degree to which every item portrays their behavior.

Experience in Using the Two Personality Tests

The two tests may not really depict the authentic character of a person, but they are suitable means of generating a sense of self confidence ion an individual. However, in relation to the validity of the results, the issue may be debatable in the sense that there is no right or wrong answer.

The Difference between Tests Used By Psychologists

Psychology tests are typically created with standardized items that are based on a psychological theory and compared to an existing edition of the statistical and diagnostic manual. This means that test is executed to relate the possibility that the items are connected with the personality characteristics. They are intended to compute through statistical as well as, scientific methodological processes of validity and reliability. Horoscopes and several other popular tests do not undergo similar meticulous scientific procedures. These meticulous scientific procedures guarantee that the items in reality gauge the characteristics they allege to measure. Personality tests that are on sale are not as valid as personally administered psychological tests since there is no interaction and autonomous verification of the individual taking the test. Psychological tests are administered with an individual discussion in order to establish if there may be other factors that ought to be considered in deducing the test. These interactions enhance the possibility of the validity as well as reliability of the entire evaluation.

Importance of Empirical Evidence, Validity and Reliability

Importance of Empirical Evidence

Empirical evidence is imperative for any empirical science. Initially, psychology theories originated from introspection and usually, received diminutive support on the basis of the limitations of introspection. Unforeseen results from empirical studies create the most interesting theories. Psychology as a science bears many significant social implications. For example, related to the most appropriate way to select personnel, how to assist persons who have mental health issues, assisting people in improving how they learn as well as make decisions. The only approach to test psychological theories is through empirical studies. If the result replicates and sustains a theory, then this provides grounds to believe the theory.

Importance Validity and Reliability

The contemporary perspective in regard to validity and reliability states that, there should be psychological theory as well as empirical evidence that support a particular explication of test scores. Validity, of personality tests may be measured in several research studies and may be evaluated in two major ways. These include criterion-related validity and content validity. In addition, meta-analysis may as well be utilized to comprehend the personality tests’ validity. Although the majority of personality tests consist of instructions that appeal to respondents to reply candidly, they may prefer not to adhere to these instructions. An imperative facet of validity is that, the legitimacy of a test’s construal is based on theory and evidence. Contemporary perspectives on validity accentuate the significance of grounding the construal and utilization of a test in a justifiable psychological theory.

Conclusion

Technically speaking, judging a personality test as invalid or valid would be misleading. It is imperative that the interpretations as well as, actions are the basis on which the test scores are taken. This is what should be form the basis for validity of a personality test. Personality tests in the opinion of this paper are a sure way of building a sense of self confidence in people.

EXPLAIN HOW TECHNOLOGY COULD BE USED IN WORKING WITH THE CLIENT AND EXPLAINS THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING TECHNOLOGY

EXPLAIN HOW TECHNOLOGY COULD BE USED IN WORKING WITH THE CLIENT AND EXPLAINS THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING TECHNOLOGY

This assignment is due Thursday December 18th no later than 12:00pm NOON

Unit 9 Assignment

Synthesize your understanding of the theories, best practices, and current trends in psychology to create a case. Begin by deciding on the type of job that interests you within your area of emphasis. Imagine that you are a professional and create a hypothetical client whom you may encounter. Please note that the client does not always need to be an individual, but may be an agency, organization, or institution.

Here is an example of a starting point for a client in the ABA emphasis area:

Behavior Analysis: A teenager with autism who is having difficulty maintaining appropriate physical boundaries with others.

Please note that these are just some ideas and you should create a client that is interesting and relevant to you. In order to avoid potential confidentiality breaches, this should be a fictitious client, not a real person you know or have worked with.

Use the paper structure below to organize the facts and recommendations for your hypothetical client.

  1. Client demographics: For individual clients, you should include the client’s name, age, marital status, occupation, and relevant family information (such as children or involved siblings or parents). If your client is an agency or organization, describe the type of institution and information on the purpose and employees or clients (for example: A business that specializes in advertising and employs 40 individuals; a high school for children with learning disabilities.) This should be 2–3 paragraphs.
  2. Presenting problem: What is the reason for the client receiving your services? Be specific about the problem, but do not add many extra details by “telling the client’s story.” This should be a 2–3 paragraph description about the problem as the client perceives it.
  3. Goals: What are the client’s main intervention/treatment goals? Two or three goals should be provided, and these should be specific and measurable. When writing goals, remember that these should describe the outcome the client wants to achieve.(1–2 pages)
  4. Relevant theoretical constructs: Which theory is relevant to your client’s case? Describe the relevant points of the theory and if applicable, which stage(s) are present. (1–2 pages)

For example, Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory may be relevant to work with a client who is struggling to develop a sense of self amid peer pressure, particularly the stage of Identity versus Role Confusion. You would clearly describe the main points of the theory and relevant stage(s). Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory may apply to a client using defense mechanisms when dealing with addiction issues. You would give a general description of the theory and then discuss the relevant defense mechanisms.

  1. Intervention methods: Synthesize the theoretical model you chose above to explain the intervention methods you will utilize to help you client meet the goals. Remember that interventions should be based on documented evidence in your area of emphasis, meaning that you should support your ideas with academic materials to show how they are appropriate. For example, what intervention strategies could be used to help the child dealing with Identify versus Role Confusion? (1–2 pages)
  2. Cultural considerations: What cultural issues will you need to consider when working with your client? Culture can refer to age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status. (1 page)
  3. Use of technology: Explain how you could use contemporary technology in your work with this client. For example, you could consider how technology is used to:
  • store and organize records
  • maintain confidentiality, such as preventing access to client files
  • screen for symptoms of psychological disorders
  • conduct therapy and meetings in non-traditional settings, such as through email or videoconferencing

Be sure to address the advantages and disadvantages of using technology for the purpose(s) you choose. (1/2–1 page)

The body of the paper should be 6–8 pages, not including the title page and reference page.

Promoting mental health and wellbeing

Essay – Promoting mental health and wellbeing (1000 words)

Aim of assessment
The purpose of this guided essay is to enable students to consolidate nursing/midwifery issues covered in class materials and to determine students’ understanding of the topics and applications, in preparation for transition into the professional nursing and midwifery workforce. This is a guided essay based on a case study where the students respond by answering a series of questions.

Details
Using EITHER Scenario A or Scenario B- please answer the following questions:

1. Investigate and outline the prevalence/incidence of depression / anxiety (depending on the scenario you have chosen) in Australia – Your answer needs to cover: gender, age groups, specific risk groups, hospitalisations.
2. Using current literature discuss TWO (2) factors that may have contributed to the development of the client’s presentation and mental health concerns.
3. Using current literature discuss TWO (2) ethico-legal issues related to your scenario.
4. Identify TWO (2) nursing/midwifery concerns / problems with evidence from your chosen scenario- Your risk identification should be focused on the next 1-5 days of nursing/midwifery care for your client.
5. For each nursing / midwifery concern / problem you have identified in Question 4, outline and describe TWO (2) evidence based nursing / midwifery interventions (ie; what you would actually do as a nurse / midwife to support the person and how you would do it). Your interventions should be focused on nursing / midwifery care for your client over the next 1-5 days. They must be interventions which you would actually undertake directly with your client within your role as a nurse or midwife. You are also required to provide a clear rationale for each nursing / midwifery intervention (ie. why have you chosen the particular nursing interventions? How will the interventions support the person or contribute positively to their current presentation or concern?) Each intervention and rationale must be supported by current literature.

Scenario A
David has been referred to you in the Emergency Mental Health Community Team by his GP. His GP is concerned about David’s mental health state and risks to self. David is a 23 year old man, currently living with his mother. Both David and his brother, Peter, have a positive relationship with their mum. David’s mother and father divorced when he was 15 years old. Before his parent’s divorce, David had a positive relationship with his dad. However at the time of his parent’s divorce David became very angry towards his dad. David also directed his anger towards his friends at the time and he quickly became isolated from his peers, ultimately leaving school at 15 years old, at the end of year 9. David and his older brother, Peter, aged 25, had shared interests of bike riding and computers during their teenager years. During your meeting with David, he stated that he did feel that he and his brother had a close relationship and friendship. However, he acknowledged that they had become more distance in recent years. David has had three past heterosexual relationships lasting several months. His last relationship finished two months ago. His most recent girlfriend has disclosed she is three months pregnant and does not wish for David to be involved in the care of the baby.
After leaving school, David had a number of part time labourer jobs. Each job lasted for two to three months. His most recent employment, over a year ago, was terminated by the employer as a result of conflict with his colleagues. David had left three of his previous jobs on his own accord as he felt “he just didn’t fit in”. He recalled a constant feeling of agitation and sadness at the time. During your contact with David, he has not worked for at least a year. He has contact with his father and brother every month or so. Many of the contacts with his father and brother end in verbal hostility. During the assessment with David, you notice he becomes distressed and tearful on your questioning. He reports recent weight loss. He discloses he has been having difficulties sleeping, feeling exhausted and increasingly depressed. You make further attempts to find out what has been happening for David and to engage with him. He asks you to stop questioning as he is ashamed of how he is currently feeling. He is worried about letting his mum down as they have always had a positive relationship. He declines to look at you while you ask him about thoughts of suicide. He does not wish for you to have any discussions with his family.

Scenario B
Tracey is a 35 year old woman who presents for assessment to the Emergency Mental Health Community Team. She is six months pregnant with her third child. Her other children, to her ex-partner, are aged three and five. Tracey is in a heterosexual relationship with her partner of one year, Peter. Peter moved in to live with Tracey and her children eight months ago. The children’s father is distressed about Peter moving in to live with his children. There is verbal hostility between Tracey and her ex- partner each time he visits to collect the children for a weekend visit. Her ex- partner frequently states he is making arrangements for court to have full time care of the children. Tracey and her current partner, Peter, are in $35,000 uncontrolled debt after a recent new joint business venture failed. A finance company calls weekly requesting payment. Tracey and her partner stopped making the mortgage repayments three months ago, with the belief that dealing with the uncontrolled debt would be a better option. Her parents are supportive but live in Queensland. Tracey is able to have face to face contact with them once a year. She does chat with her parents over telephone every week if possible. Tracey states she is worried about how she will cope with her two children and new baby. She reports low mood, weekly panic attacks and fleeting thoughts of suicide. During your meeting with Tracey, you note she is fidgety and restless, breathing rapidly, shaking slightly, sweating and tearful. She is not wishing to actively engage with the mental health services, for fear it will impact on her having care of her children, stating she will visit her General Practitioner (GP).
