Assignment 3: Family Assessment: 50% of the Final Grade: This clinical assignment focuses on the family system and all the subsystems that affect the family, how the family unit copes, and how the nurse can help the family maintain a state of equilibrium. In your text is an outline of the Calgary Model and how it helps in the interviewing and assessment of the family. Using this model as a guideline choose a family you know to help you complete this assignment; these should not be your own family. Be sure the family is well in that they are not dealing with a newly diagnosed chronic or acute illness. Families with long-standing chronic illnesses, such as controlled hypertension or diabetes, are acceptable. Do not choose a family with acute problems including acute psychiatric illnesses.

Contact the family and explain the project you need to complete and if they are willing to participate. Set up a meeting time to speak with family members who would be most helpful with this project. Have questions prepared concerning all the subsystems that affect families including ethnic backgrounds, working status of family members, education, etc.  You may need to meet with the family more than once. Using the family assessment summary in your text, complete a family assessment.

This assessment must include content on all of the subsystems discussed in class this semester as well as a very detailed genogram, a list of family diagnoses including strengths and problems (stressors) related to each diagnoses. Students will need to summarize their project by explaining how the family members and the family unit cope with any problems that may arise; are they able to maintain a state of equilibrium or are they having difficulty maintaining a functional system?  What could be done to improve or help with coping of the identified problems? Could some of the coping mechanisms of one family help another family if similar problems exist?

Beyond the textbook, students should search for additional resources to help explain the subsystems of the families; for example, their response to illness may be based on cultural background or religious beliefs. Find resources to support this and explain fully.

This project should have a minimum of 10 resources in addition to the course textbook.

This project should be written in narrative format with appropriate headings to identify each required section. A Safe Assign folder will be available for its submission.

This project asks you to do what Congress has not been able to do in decades – balance the federal budget!

Introduction: This project asks you to do what Congress has not been able to do in decades – balance the federal budget! This simulation requires you to work through the various areas of government spending and decide what to keep, cut, or add in hopes of balancing the budget. Hopefully, you will see how politically and practically challenging this really is. Remember, budgets are enacted through legislation. So, it is critical that you remember you are a member of Congress and will have to face your constituents after these decisions are made. Additionally, Congress also must get the President on board as legislation requires congressional passage and the president’s signature. You should quickly realize that popular recommendations like eliminating the Department of Education barely make a reduction in the deficit. Also, keep in mind that balancing the budget does not reduce the national debt. To do that, there must be a surplus that can be used to pay down the debt.

Directions: Use the Federal Budget Challenge link (<link is hidden> to attempt to balance the budget. Keep track of the changes you suggest to include in your final project submission. Your final submission must include three things: 1) a screenshot of your final result, 2) a short explanation of the budgetary changes you suggested, 3) an explanation of why you believe your recommendations are politically feasible.

Weight Management

What will you measure? When? How will you measure it?
How will each of the measures contribute to an understanding of your improvement?
Use the Data Collection Plan Template to ensure you have a good system in place for collecting data (<link is hidden> tracking on your phone, by hand in a notebook, etc.). You will collect data for your Personal Improvement Project in Weeks 2 through 5.

Journal: Personal Improvement Project Outline
Before engaging in any given project, it is helpful to have a plan. An outline allows you to map out the steps of your project and foresee any challenges you may experience along the way. It also can serve as a checkpoint. As you are collecting and analyzing your data in later weeks, you may want to return to your outline and check that you are addressing what you had intended. For this Journal, you will create an outline of your Personal Improvement Project to guide you both in carrying out the project and in synthesizing the results for your Module 1 Assignment.

The effects of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) around the world

As a human being I can tell you I am very surprised about what happens all over the world since a few months. This Coronavirus pandemic was unexpected (although … over the last 10 years Bill Gates predicted already a few times the impact of killing and infectious diseases; the threats we should face. He gave more than once a wake-up call !). All of us, we feel now the tremendous impact in real live, day by day. Effects not just concerning health and health systems. Also concerning economics, social live and contacts, sport and travelling, relaxing and so on. Without exaggerating the Coronavirus has effects on everything and everyone. And that is worldwide visible. Think about the lockdowns, national policies and so on.

As your lecturer for the topics Sociology & Cultural Anthropology this time is interesting, very interesting. The pandemic mentioned concerns all aspects we have observed during lectures. In sociological and in cultural anthropological perspective the world is shaking. For example the metaphor of the ice-berg: cultural and social values should be rather fixed and accepted. Since a few months we are living in a world where the values of today can become different tomorrow. And we don’t know what tomorrow will bring: uncertainty all over.

More than two months later: We are aware the Coronavirus caused and will cause a lot of effects. It looks like the lockdowns (in the different versions we have seen in the past months) seem to be less strictly. Nevertheless the nowadays circumstances can be characterized as unique and uncertain, without any doubt. We can see the pandemic caused a collective worldwide culture shock. The primary focus of this crisis was on health and healthcare. Obtaining more control of that, other aspects are becoming more predominant. Not only for the short term; in the long term we all expect that we have to act in a different world, including changed rules and behaviour such as social distancing. We have to find both at individual level as well as at community / society level a new balance.

This nowadays situation will be the starting point of this examination. Read the questions following accurately and try to answer them in the boxes given.

Given: Like mentioned in the lectures: culture is what makes you a stranger when you are away from home. In this Coronavirus crisis it looks like as if we are “away from home” and feel a stranger in our own world. Question: Describe in your own words the impact of the Coronavirus crisis at our mental perception of culture, focusing on family life, on freedom and on arts. Formulate for each of the cultural aspects an explicit example. (30 points)

Given: One of the cultural universals is time. The most common view is called “Chronos”. During the crisis the view called “Kairos” seems to become more relevant. It is a kind of changing of mindset. Question: Connect the Kairos time to the Coronavirus and describe in your own words the opportunities which can be recognized. Use of sources is required; don’t forget APA. (25 points)
